FIC SUMMARY: The public is wonderfully tolerant. It forgives everything except genius. ~ Oscar Wilde

RECCER'S NOTES: A profiler!Mulder story told from the point of view of one of the detectives assigned on the same case as he observes his colleagues' reactions to the famous Spooky Mulder. An enjoyable little one-shot with fine narrative voice and some memorable lines. (Detective Carr shows up in a sequel story, Mileage, featuring Scully as the Coolest Lecturer Ever.)

MAIN CHARACTERS: Ginko, Adashino

FIC SUMMARY: After becoming snowbound in Adashino's village, Ginko realizes it's no natural storm keeping him there.

RECCER'S NOTES: A lovely little casefic that captures the feel of the series wonderfully. Contains Ginko being 100% done with everyone, Adashino being Adashino, and an intriguing mushi.

FIC SUMMARY: Puss’s owner dies and leaves him to the youngest son, who’s gone and fallen for a dame well above his station. It’s up to Puss to unite the two loves and solve the case of a stolen jewel in the process. And maybe, just maybe, get himself a sweet life on easy street.

First in the Two-Booted Tales series.

RECCER'S NOTES: A fairy tale AU where Puss is a hardboiled 'tec. Of course, with the tale involving a boot wearing cat the perp isn't run of the mill either. Great use of noirish dialogue makes the tale a pleasure.

FIC SUMMARY: Three months after the singularity, a wave of impossible robberies strikes Central City, and there is one obvious suspect: the Flash. But as Barry and his friends unite to track down the real culprit, they find themselves facing a dangerous new enemy in a pursuit that may cost them everything.

Post season 1.

RECCER'S NOTES: An epic, plotty imagining of what might have happened after the season one finale. If you spent the summer hoping Iris would finally get to be part of the gang, or wondering what DCU villains might make an appearance, this is the fic to scratch that itch. Plus: friendship and teamwork! So many feels.

RATING/WARNING(S): PG | Mild canon-type violence
MAIN CHARACTERS: Jo Grant, Third Doctor, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart

FIC SUMMARY: When an opera critic is torn limb from limb, the Brigadier suspects that more than just bruised egos are at play.

RECCER'S NOTES: It’s like the UNIT-era squared, and it’s utterly wonderful. The Brigadier has crossword experts looking for the Master! The Doctor has blown up the lab (again)! Jo’s on an undercover mission (with an unexpected ‘date’), the Master has an improbable villainous plan, and it all goes a little bit Phantom of the Opera. Fabulous missing adventure fic.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Thomas Nightingale, Peter Grant, Lesley May

FIC SUMMARY: Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise.

RECCER'S NOTES: Builds on the fallout from Ettersberg to yield an atmospheric ghost story that feels just like a missing case from canon. There are also interesting insights into Nightingale's youth & the history of magical practice in this universe. Philomytha is always worth reading and it's been a treat watching her fall headlong into a new fandom.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Toshiko Sato, Team; mentions of canon pairings

FIC SUMMARY: Torchwood has to deal with threats from an alien species and Myfanwy has gone missing. Plus, it is time for Tosh's five-year review by UNIT, and things do not go well. Takes place a few days before Season 2's 'Fragments'.

This story might be best described as a Tosh-centric team fic. It actually reads like an episode. It's extremely well written, fast paced with wonderful character moments not only for Tosh, but for all the characters. A wonderful entertaining read.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Isaac Dian, Miria Harvent

FIC SUMMARY: It was their first heist, but it was destined not to be their last.

RECCER'S NOTES: An absolutely adorable take on Miria and Isaac as children. The voices of the two are perfect, and the relationship the have to each other (and to stealing things!) is incredibly faithful to the show. Plus, it's really funny!

FANDOM: Supernatural, Rise of the Guardians
FIC LINK: A Colder Shade of Pale
RATING/WARNING(S): Violence against children
MAIN CHARACTERS: Jack Frost, Jamie Bennett, Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester

FIC SUMMARY: When children in the town of Burgess are found frozen to death in their beds, the Winchesters go on the hunt for the creature responsible. Local lore tells of Burgess being the origin place of the winter spirit known as Jack Frost, and thinking he’s the killer, the boys set out to put Jack down for his final rest. Jack, however, has other plans...

RECCER'S NOTES: I love this sort of crossover; the characters are antagonistic to each other, but they're fighting for reasons that make perfect sense, and you understand why they're doing what they're doing even as you're yelling at the screen to just talk it out, already, guys! The work done to make the fusion of these two worlds is great, and the fic is tightly plotted and suspenseful.

To complicate matters, Fenrir Greyback is on the loose, and Ron must face the Forbidden Forest and his own fears if he is to unravel the mystery.

RECCER'S NOTES: This is a really great case!fic and character study. The mystery was well thought out and the case engaging. I loved all the little details, how they make the characters and their world rich and real. Ron's struggle felt very true to canon, at the same time we can see him growing up.

RATING/WARNING(S): PG-13, minor language, horror elements and violence, nothing worse than what’s on the show. Spoilers through to episode 8.10, Torn and Frayed
WIP?/WORD COUNT: complete, 30K
MAIN CHARACTERS: Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester

The Raven is a hotel opposite a haunted house a few miles outside Baltimore. Sam and Dean are there on a boringly routine job. Then Sam finds a package of nineteenth-century letters under a floorboard, a mysterious ghost with sad eyes insists that Dean is going to kill his brother, and the world’s creepiest doctor shows up claiming he can cure Sam, who’s suddenly starting to spike high fevers for no reason Dean can figure out.

The Supernatural fandom can do case!fic like no one's business, this is just one example of how awesome it can be. The setting is creepy, the boys are snarky and there's a dash of h/c that feels very true to the show. There are some small moments of outsider POV peppered in that are fantastic as well.
