There's some John/Mary but I feel this stands on its own as a character piece. (Unfortunately I can only find a link to the LJ entry and I have to copy & paste the fic into another window to make it easier on the eyes, but I still say it's worth it!)

RECCER'S NOTES: So now that Autumn is finally underway, I've broken out my Gilmore Girls dvds (it just feels like such an autumnal show, idk) and I'm in the mood for some Gilmore Girls fic. And so, I found this one <3 As time goes by, one of the things I notice and love more and more in this show is just how damn much Emily really loves Lorelai. It's sort of heartbreaking how lost in translation that love gets, and this Emily-centric character study does an amazing job of exploring and capturing that.

RECCER'S NOTES:

I can't even with this AU. It's so wonderfully, amazingly crafted. It's written around Ginny Weasley being Sorted into Slytherin, and it explores how she views herself, how her family views her, and how Hogwarts views her. There are so many wonderful details and obstacles; so many things explored. The fic is tagged Harry/Ginny but, while they do share a bare handful of scenes together at this point, nothing shippy is jumping out at me. This is a story of perception and self-awareness, and Ginny's struggle to reestablish herself in a world where she's always had a place.
The first chapter was posted way back in 2011 and the latest chapter (ch4) was posted in Jan 2014, so I'm not really expecting hasty updates, but what's there already is breath taking and you should go and read it right now.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is just beautifully, realistically written. I love the awkward, non-explosive meeting with Patrick, I love Karen's little appearance, and I love, love Watson. His relationship with the Thomas kids just gets me every time, and there's a line in this fic which made me tear up a little. It's really, really sweet and powerful at the same time.

fandom_stocking. One of my regular requests is for fic that deals with the family dynamics of muggle-born wizards, and oh boy did this fic deliver <3 I love how it deals with sons going to Hogwarts and remaining valued members of their family, and the subsequent awfulness of the war.

RECCER'S NOTES:

An amazing, lengthy story of journeys and adventure, set just after the Pevensies are crowned. The politics detailed in this fic are amazing and well thought out - the adventures are dangerous and exciting, and the characterisation is wonderful. The original characters are fantastic, and Narnia is wonderfully detailed.

The Pevensies themselves are brilliant - intelligent, brave, but flawed. They struggle to make sense of their new duties at times, but not once shy away from them. All of them have shining moments in this fic - I can't choose a favourite; I love them all.
