FANDOM: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
FIC LINK: Vietnam | Scars | Let Sleeping Dogs
AUTHOR LINK: Rorschach's Blot
RATING/WARNING(S): T, M, T
WIP?/WORD COUNT: Complete, 1796 words, 4679 words, 2630 words respectively
MAIN CHARACTERS: Shaggy Rogers

FIC SUMMARY: A trilogy of oneshot fics concerning Shaggy as a Vietnam war veteran.

RECCER'S NOTES: The premise is treated very seriously and provides some explanation for some of Shaggy's canonical character traits. If you're wondering how this series came to be, the writer was inspired by a trip to a video store, where one television had some Scooby-Doo clips on and the other had a war film. The original cartoon took place in the late 1960s and early 1970s, so the idea of one of Mystery Inc being a Vietnam veteran came to mind.
(Mods, let me know if I messed up the post by doing it this way)

RATING/WARNING(S): General audiences
WIP?/WORD COUNT: 3712| Complete
MAIN CHARACTERS: Vila Restal, Idéfix | Dogmatix, Obélix | Obelix, Astérix | Asterix, Kerr Avon, Gracchus Nenjetepus | Gracchus Armisurplus, Panoramix | Getafix, Roman legionarie.
FIC SUMMARY: Vila Restal goes into a bar and meets... Dogmatix! Being a dog, Dogmatix doesn't have many lines, but he does play an important part.

RECCER'S NOTES: Huge fun. Vila slots right into the everyday happening in Asterix’s corner of Gaul. Magic potion is drunk and the Romans are bopped. Dogmatix is adorably doggy, Avon makes a great “genie” and the suggestions for Vila and Avon’s Roman names are fab.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Velma Dinkley, Scooby Doo, Daphne Blake, Fred Jones, Shaggy Rogers

FIC SUMMARY:

Velma saved them in the end. She knew she did, she wasn't shy about it. Her research gave them machetes, chainsaws and shotguns, garlic and holy water, silver bullets. She was the first one to take aim and squeeze off four shots, the last one taking the zombie right through the forehead and knocking him down hard before he could take a bite out of Fred's arm. She took the knife, the kitchen knife they'd found in Fred's apartment and the only one they had then, and she cut off the head and shot it one last time, spraying blood and brain across the asphalt of the road where they'd stopped for a bathroom break.

RECCER'S NOTES:

I don't even know what to say about this fic. It made me squirm (because it's violent and a bit gross) and also I teared up, and also it's SCOOBY DOO. Velma is forced to become a different person in an apocalyptic world, and it's just brilliant. The character building and the tension and fear is all so wonderful. I love darker spins on childhood classics, and this is one of my all time favourite examples.

FIC LINK: Fiendish Father’s Day
AUTHOR LINK: [fanfiction.net profile] jarec
RATING/WARNING(S): General audiences
WIP?/WORD COUNT: 2994 | Complete
MAIN CHARACTERS: Count Duckula, Igor, Nanny.
FIC SUMMARY: Its Fathers Day, and Count Duckula wracks his brain for a suitable gift for the one who gave him life.

RECCER'S NOTES: A comfort food of a fic. Part of the warmth comes from nostalgia as Count Duckula was a favourite childhood cartoon of mine and the other comes from the fic itself. The characters are beautifully in character, almost like watching an actual episode. The writer is a fan of the show and it shows. There are a few typos here and there, but it would be churlish not to read because of them.

FIC LINK: A Mountain Out Of A Molehill
AUTHOR LINK: [archiveofourown.org profile] spycandy
RATING/WARNING(S): All ages.
WIP?/WORD COUNT: 1927| Complete
MAIN CHARACTERS: Danger Mouse, Ernest Penfold, Colonel K, Peter Guillam.

FIC SUMMARY: Who better to track down a mole than a mouse and a hamster?

RECCER'S NOTES: Crumbs! A crossover between a kid’s cartoon and a serious spy drama. This is very much in the style of Danger Mouse. Spycandy catches the feel and the humour of the series with the OC’s being instantly recognisable types found in DM. Penfold is particularly well written and the author imparts secret information about the “Penfold Method.” Cor!
