MAIN CHARACTERS: Sirius Black

FIC SUMMARY: Sirius has always been a strong person, but what's the force that makes someone strong?

RECCER'S NOTES:

While there might be religious tones to Harry Potter there are no overt religious scenes. The author manages to weave christian faith and religion into their story. When I first came upon this story, I was surprised how neatly it fit into canon.

I believe in this Sirius here. His faith (and his struggles with it) is never preachy or heavy handed. It is but a part of him.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Riley Finn

FIC SUMMARY: In Sunnydale, no one went to church. Which was kind of ironic, because there was so little that was truly bad in Huxley, Iowa and yet he could count the people who hadn’t gone to church on one hand.

RECCER'S NOTES:

Riley is probably the second most despised Buffy character, behind only Kennedy, and there's so little Riley-centric fanfiction that doesn't make him into a monster. This insightful study builds from the fact he's only the only Buffy character shown attending church, and takes a serious look at what the Buffyverse might do to an ordinary person with religious faith. A quiet gem.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Carlisle Cullen, Edward Cullen

FIC SUMMARY: Why, after more than two centuries alone, did Carlisle break down and turn a 17-year-old boy? He told Bella it was because Edward's mother had demanded it, but in all his years of life, surely she wasn't the first. Why did this boy get under his skin so?

RECCER'S NOTES:

I find Twilight canon pretty unbearable but also completely fascinating. Fandom is often there to fall back on, and it can provide amazing, in-depth character study or backstory. This fic is a great example of that - I love the inner conflict Carlisle battles with, and the setting and time of the entire piece is really well written and researched. (I've linked to FFN despite the request in the author's note, as it looks like the author's site has since been taken down.)

MAIN CHARACTERS: Susan Ivanova, Delenn

FIC SUMMARY: The noble Ivanova was known as the Strong, for she was strong in heart and in mind, in body and in faith.

RECCER'S NOTES: This story is a remix of [archiveofourown.org profile] Beatrice_Otter's Faith in Three Movements, which is a wonderful story too.

Matters of Faith (The Ouroboros Bridge) is a great character study of Susan Ivanova. She is fleshed out here, and when I read the story I could see the Ivanova I saw on the show, and how she grew.
It is also an interesting look at faith and religion, and how she saw it and how it shaped her life.
