MAIN CHARACTERS: Rustin 'Rust' Cohle, Travis Cohle

FIC SUMMARY: Rust in Alaska.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is one of my favourite fics from Yuletide 2014 - it manages to build little details of Rust's past, as well as shaping his future in a really gentle, believable way. One of those fics that says an awful lot with very few words. Really beautifully done.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Martin 'Marty' Hart, Rustin 'Rust' Cohle

FIC SUMMARY: “You coming out tomorrow?” Marty threads the car around a plodding Cadillac without using his turn signal.

Rust takes a drag off his cigarette. “I tell you my views on patriotism, Marty, we’re gonna be here a while, and the drive home ain’t that long.”

RECCER'S NOTES:

A beautifully written little fic about Rust watching 4th of July fireworks. I love [archiveofourown.org profile] dancinguniverse's TD fics. The language and the characterisation is just utterly gorgeous.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Rustin 'Rust' Cohle, Martin 'Marty' Hart

FIC SUMMARY: Rust can still feel the weight of the girl in his arms, but it’s not Marty’s daughter he’s remembering.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is the second True Detective fic I've rec'd by this author, and it's beautiful. It's introspective, sad and heartwarming. Rust watches Marty's daughters in their yard and reflects on his own family's past. It's a little snippet of life that's totally believable and really, really beautifully written.

WIP?/WORD COUNT: Complete | 2599
MAIN CHARACTERS: Rustin 'Rust' Cohle, Malcolm Reynolds, Zoe Washburne, River Tam, Jayne Cobb, Simon Tam, Kaylee Frye, Martin 'Marty' Hart

FIC SUMMARY: “You need a ship?” The voice is a rainbow, and Rust glances up, thrown. Even after he cleared the psych station, everything here on Ariel has been muted shades of gray and brown, hard silver and white. The girl smiles at him from her lawn chair, twirling a parasol the color of her voice.

RECCER'S NOTES:

Don't ask me how this works, but it does, and it's amazing. I have no idea how big the audience for this crossover is likely to be, but I have to rec it. Rust's voice is perfect and the way his synesthesia is woven through everything - it adds so much. I love the way Rust is during his time on Serenity, and the way everything pans out. Really clever, and written with a subtle touch that works absolutely perfectly.
