RECCER'S NOTES: I really like the relationship between Ron and Sirius here. They bond here over feeling kind of useless. And I love that the story shows that they aren't.
Love Sirius' characterization especially here. I think the author really captures book 5 Sirius.

FIC SUMMARY: "Who are you and what did you do with the Brigadier?"

RECCER'S NOTES: What did the Doctor get up to in those ten seconds at the end of "Rose"? Turns out he buggered off to see the Brigadier, and more or less refused to go away. Reasons to read this: 1. It's Nine and the Brig; 2. it's by Cryptile. Dialogue sharp as knives. The Brigadier's voice is delightful, his reaction to the intruder memorable, and the brittle wrongness of this new Doctor as the Brig watches him about the place sticks in my throat and burns.

Consider this an author rec, too, because every fic on Cryptile's profile is fantastic, with that balanced DW blend of drama and comedy and absolutely impeccable characterisation. One of the very best.

I love the description of Sam and her thoughts, and I love the interaction between her and Sha're. I would have loved to see something like this on the show. While being a reaction to the lack of women and interaction between them (on the show), this story is wonderful in its own right. It articulates some things that have been consciously and sub-consciously bothering me and I love it.

To put it kindly, she was tone deaf; to put it bluntly was to say she sounded like a hippogriff caught in a harpy's nest.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is a wonderful character study of Poppy Pomphrey. I love the setting during the seventh book, love her friendships, and she is such an amazing character.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This story features one of the most loathed characters from the Harry Potter books - Dolores Umbridge. It was originally written for the

hp_darkfest and it shows.

It's an intriguing view into Umbridge's head and how she became who she is.

catsintheattic strikes here a difficult balance - creating understanding (and a sense of sympathy) without excusing Umbridge's behavior. A truly fascinating character piece.

What impressed me the most though is the fact how seamlessly the story is incorporated into canon. Looking back at the books it fits perfectly in.

It's not an easy read (please heed the warnings!), but very well worth it.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is a wonderful story depicting the frienship between Aragorn and Bilbo Baggins. Both of them are very much in character (more-so with their book versions, though). I can hear them clearly.
This fills the gaps of the "The Lord of the Rings" with life. I love Bilbo's voice here, and how he sees (and not-sees) the world and the happenings around him.

Moreover, the local mafia are about to enact a plan that could put the entire region at risk. With Hydra hot on his heels, Clint must rely on his wits and a few local friends to put an end to the plot and get out alive.

RECCER'S NOTES: Wondering what Clint was up to during Captain America: The Winter Soldier? This story shows us a plausible, action-packed explanation. Thematically inspired by the Fraction/Aja comic in an interesting way, as the daunting situations of the MCU meet an extremely human Clint. Contains one of my favourite MCU specific tropes, Deaf/Hard of Hearing Clint. Who we should get more of in canon, anyway.
