WIP?/WORD COUNT: complete, 644 words
MAIN CHARACTERS: Gertrude Yorkes, Molly Hernandez

FIC SUMMARY: Molly and Gert enjoy something they never thought they would get to experience living in Los Angeles: a snow day.

RECCER'S NOTES: A pre-canon ficlet about Molly, Gert and their best/worst snowman ever. It's funny, touching and sweet, and it always makes me smile. :) If you just want to read a happy story, this one doesn't require canon knowledge, but at the same time it's perfectly in character.

I got it as a gift during the Marvel/DC Holiday Bingo Exchange.

MAIN CHARACTERS: River Tam, Buffy Summers

FIC SUMMARY: In her dreams, there was an angel, like in legends from Earth-that-Was, with blonde hair and a kind smile, and River knew that this angel meant her well; that she was here to protect her; that she was River’s sister.

RECCER'S NOTES: The entire idea of this story is such a fantastic way to make this crossover work - there are some brilliant reveals that I'm not going to spoil. It's a relatively dark fic (it deals with River's past abuse and current trauma) but ultimately it's full of hope. I love how elements from both canons and all the characters ring 100% true, which means that it can go from poignant to humorous and back again, often in the same paragraph, just like the source material does. Other than the central, touching relationship between Buffy and River, my favorite part of this story are quips between Buffy and Mal.

It's another exchange gift I got, this time at [community profile] x_ship. :)

MAIN CHARACTERS: Claudia Kishi, Janine Kishi

FIC SUMMARY: Claudia would always see that night when Janine came to ease a chocolate craving as the first time they really bonded as sisters.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is PERFECT. Both character voices are really, really well done, and the entire situation is something so easily believable and possible. It's a really sweet moment and I love it so, so much.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Terri Mackleberry, Sherri Mackleberry, Bart Simpson, Lisa Simpson

FIC SUMMARY: Sherri and Terri's bond is shaken as they find their way through their teenage years.

RECCER'S NOTES:

Okay so fair warning first: This fic does contain Terri/Bart, but I don't believe it's the main story being told here. Simpsons fic is rare, and Simpsons fic I find in character or believable is even rarer still. This is lovely. It builds on the canon and takes it in an unexpected but believable direction. I particularly love Bart and Lisa in this fic, even though it's a story primarily about Sherri and Terri - about the destruction of their relationship, what it's like to suddenly be without a half, and how to go about putting things right once you figure out who you are alone.

WIP?/WORD COUNT: one-shot | ~ 2,500 words
MAIN CHARACTERS: Ichabod Crane, Jenny Mills, Abbie Mills, Frank Irving

FIC SUMMARY: “Here’s what I figure,” Abbie said. “You need to catch up to modern culture. But you should catch up in stages. By degrees. Even Mark Twain was a little too far ahead for you, so let’s take it back a step. We’ll start you off with what’s closest to your time period, and move forward a few decades at a time until you’re back in the groove.”
So she starts Ichabod with a novel Corbin gave her long ago: Sense & Sensibility.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is tagged as pre-het, but I didn't see this here.
At the core of the story is the relationship between the Mills sisters. I love their relationship here. They ring very true to me.

FIC SUMMARY: Five ways Elsa never learned to control her powers (and one way she did).

RECCER'S NOTES: I love fics that explore alternate ways Elsa could have dealt with her powers, and five things fics are perfectly suited to how I like to see this topic played with. This is a quick and fascinating read, one that I expect to keep coming back to <3

WORD COUNT: 5203, Complete.
MAIN CHARACTERS: Posy Fossil, Pauline Fossil, Petrova Fossil, Nana,Gum, Sylvia Brown, Manoff

FIC SUMMARY: Posy, studying ballet in Czechoslovakia in the1930s, writes to her family, and especially to her sisters, reflecting on her new life, cut adrift from almost everything and everyone she knows to follow her passionate drive to learn from and dance with the brilliant Manoff.

RECCER'S NOTES:  Great evocation of Posy's view of her life and career - and of her sisters' lives and careers -  as war descends on Europe.  Terrific character studies and exploration of the dynamics of the many cross-cutting relationships.
