MAIN CHARACTERS: Bilbo Baggins

FIC SUMMARY: Bilbo can't write the Red Book the way that he'd like.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is a well-thought out, well-written story. It's believable, very much in character and slightly creepy. Love Bilbo here, and his thoughts, and how he tries to be true.

Hi, I'm [personal profile] thisbluespirit, gensploder of the month for May, very new to this (hoping it's all done right). I'm mostly a Doctor Who fan but also love a whole lot of other fandoms, especially random tiny ones - hopefully I'll manage a fair mix across the month. Here goes...

WIP?/WORD COUNT: 4734
MAIN CHARACTERS: Edmund Blackadder, Baldrick, Tenth Doctor, Queenie, Other Characters.

FIC SUMMARY: Queen Elizabeth I is marrying a Mr William Shakespeare (no relation) and there's a mysterious blue box in the alley outside Mrs Miggins' pie shop; Edmund Blackadder is on the case.

RECCER'S NOTES: I thought I’d start off with what remains one of the very best and funniest Doctor Who crossovers (no mean feat in a go-anywhere fandom built for such things). It’s brilliant, like a long-lost episode of Blackadder II that’s been held out of the archives because it happens to feature the Doctor. It's extremely funny, has spot-on characterisation for both fandoms, ties up loose bits of canon (if a little jossed these days), and makes absolutely perfect use of Baldrick. Basically, it’s pretty damn glorious.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Hélène Goyle (Gregory Goyle's mother); other characters mentioned

FIC SUMMARY: There is more to the identity of pure-blooded wizardry than the excesses of the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters. But the obligations that come with old blood are not always less painful…

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is a wonderful and chilling character study of Greg Goyle's mother. Since we don't really know much about her beside the fact that she must exist, she is mostly an original character. This doesn't matter though, for in this story we get to know her very well. She is sympathetic without being entirely likeable. I feel for her though.

It is a dark story, with dark themes, and it quite chilled me.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Tony Stark, James "Rhodey" Rhodes

FIC SUMMARY: "Shrapnel," Tony says, and alarms go off around his ears and he can’t breathe and the pain is going to eat him up from the head down. "In my heart. I made it. Not the shrapnel. ...Well. The shrapnel too."

RECCER'S NOTES: This is a great, heartbreaking missing scene from the first movie. It makes so much sense for there to be such a scene. Great characterization, and I love Tony and Rhodey's frienship.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Luck Gandor, Claire Stanfield

FIC SUMMARY: When Luck buys a bar, he isn't expecting all the repercussions.

RECCER'S NOTES: A wondeful sense of family and friends permeates this fic, and Luck's discovery and slow realization is well-done and leaves us with a sense of hope. It's good to see how Claire and Chane's relationship might work out! And I particularly adore Miria and Isaac's cameo. :3 Post-canon character drama.
