RATING/WARNING(S): Teen. Some violence.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Martha Kent, Jonathan Kent, Clark Kent

FIC SUMMARY: Time travelers who plan to kill Superman never account for Martha Kent in their plans. She may not be the World's Finest, but she's a mother with a shotgun, and all told that might be scarier.

RECCER'S NOTES: A brilliant story about Martha Kent protecting her son from time travelling villains. Strangely adorable despite all of the killing.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Rhonda Boney, Amy Elliot Dunne

FIC SUMMARY: “Insanity is relative. It depends on who has who locked in what cage.”

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is so chilling. I will admit I haven't read the book, I have only seen the movie, so I can't speak for the accuracy on characterisation beyond that, but the way this fic is told and set out to reveal exactly what's happened is nothing short of brilliant. Rhonda and Amy face off against each other and it's so understated and sharp and cold. I honestly thought I'd rec'd this one already, but the tags tell me I haven't, so go and read it now!

AUTHOR LINK: [archiveofourown.org profile] Rokesmith
RATING/WARNING(S): Teen
WIP?/WORD COUNT: complete / 67 000 words
MAIN CHARACTERS: Barry Allen, Iris West, Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon, Joe West

FIC SUMMARY: Three months after the singularity, a wave of impossible robberies strikes Central City, and there is one obvious suspect: the Flash. But as Barry and his friends unite to track down the real culprit, they find themselves facing a dangerous new enemy in a pursuit that may cost them everything.

Post season 1.

RECCER'S NOTES: An epic, plotty imagining of what might have happened after the season one finale. If you spent the summer hoping Iris would finally get to be part of the gang, or wondering what DCU villains might make an appearance, this is the fic to scratch that itch. Plus: friendship and teamwork! So many feels.

FIC SUMMARY: Ted tries to dispense parental advice when Rachel encounters the lurking existential dread of the college application process. There's a dead body on an airplane and Dani hates the FBI. And Charlie is probably going to buy UCLA a building.

RECCER'S NOTES: If you've ever wondered what Charlie and Dani and company might have gotten up to after the cancellation of Life? This is a surprisingly convincing answer to that question, full of adorable Charlie-isms.

Oh, I love Ianto and Tosh together. They just fit in a way the other characters on the show rarely do. I love how they interact here, bonding over their past and their relationship to Jack.

FIC SUMMARY: Ahsoka won't teach Leia to use the Force, but she can teach her to hide herself within it.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is a brilliant story featuring Ahsoka teaching Leia. Ahsoka is great here, and Leia too, very close to canon. And it makes so much sense. Awesome.

FIC SUMMARY: Being a Hufflepuff means you have to do things the hard way. It has its advantages, however...

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is a really cool and interesting character study. And lovely.
I love especially Helga's characterization, and how her work endures thoughout the centuries. Really, I'd love to read more about Helga.

RECCER'S NOTES:

Funny and heartfelt at once, with voices wonderfully true to canon. Cindy's conversion is one of my favourite storylines and this fic does justice to it absolutely perfectly.

FIC SUMMARY: In the third year of her conquest, Jadis locked Aslan out of Narnia and plunged that country into endless winter. But there are other powers in the world, and not all of them are pleased at the sudden changes.

RECCER'S NOTES: I received this in the recent Narnia Fic Exchange. However, I'm not biased when recommending this. Jadis is fascinating: driven, violent, vindictive, and the way this fic looks at how she bent the magic of the land to her will is excellent.

RATING/WARNING(S): R | violence, character death
WIP?/WORD COUNT: complete | 3,500
MAIN CHARACTERS: Velma Dinkley, Scooby Doo, Daphne Blake, Fred Jones, Shaggy Rogers

FIC SUMMARY:

Velma saved them in the end. She knew she did, she wasn't shy about it. Her research gave them machetes, chainsaws and shotguns, garlic and holy water, silver bullets. She was the first one to take aim and squeeze off four shots, the last one taking the zombie right through the forehead and knocking him down hard before he could take a bite out of Fred's arm. She took the knife, the kitchen knife they'd found in Fred's apartment and the only one they had then, and she cut off the head and shot it one last time, spraying blood and brain across the asphalt of the road where they'd stopped for a bathroom break.

RECCER'S NOTES:

I don't even know what to say about this fic. It made me squirm (because it's violent and a bit gross) and also I teared up, and also it's SCOOBY DOO. Velma is forced to become a different person in an apocalyptic world, and it's just brilliant. The character building and the tension and fear is all so wonderful. I love darker spins on childhood classics, and this is one of my all time favourite examples.

FIC SUMMARY: SHIELD's down, Captain America's AWOL, and on the whole, things are kind of FUBAR. On the other hand, Tony might have some semblance of a plan.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This was a great and believable story, about team-building and beginning friendships. The characterization was spot-on for me, and the interactions between the characters build from this.

The plot is paced well, and I like how all the strands come together.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood

FIC SUMMARY: Hermione and Luna practice the art of (mild) teenage rebellion.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is set during the fifth book, after Dumbledore leaves Hogwarts. I really wish we could have seen something like this in the book, even through Harry's eyes.

This such a nice moment between Hermione and Luna. I really like Hermione's pov, and how she sees Luna. Luna is so awesome here, a little eccentric but still down-to-earth. She isn't nearly as flighty as some author make her out to be.

This story stands perfectly well on its own, but I really love to read more about the two of them.

RECCER'S NOTES:

Fiona is my favorite character in Burn Notice. This is a really neat little character study.

RECCER'S NOTES:

I love the description of Sam and her thoughts, and I love the interaction between her and Sha're. I would have loved to see something like this on the show. While being a reaction to the lack of women and interaction between them (on the show), this story is wonderful in its own right. It articulates some things that have been consciously and sub-consciously bothering me and I love it.

RATING/WARNING(S): G | set partly during the seventh book
WIP?/WORD COUNT: one-shot | ~ 2,000 words
MAIN CHARACTERS: Poppy Pomphrey, Minerva McGonagall, Luna Lovegood

FIC SUMMARY: Poppy Pomfrey liked to sing. It was a little known secret, because although she indulged in singing quite frequently she very rarely gave anyone the chance to hear her sing. To put it kindly, she was tone deaf; to put it bluntly was to say she sounded like a hippogriff caught in a harpy's nest.

RECCER'S NOTES:

This is a wonderful character study of Poppy Pomphrey. I love the setting during the seventh book, love her friendships, and she is such an amazing character.
